Slovakia Adopted Euro Today
January 1, 2009.Slovakia adopted euro today. All available data indicate that the changeover from the Slovak koruna went well. Citizens are able to withdraw euro cash from ATMs all over Slovakia and to use it for daily payments.
The euro area has two reasons to celebrate: the number of European Union countries that share the same currency grew to 16 with Slovakia and it is the 10th anniversary of the euro.

Slovakia to Adopt Euro with Conversion Rate 30.126 SKK/EUR
July 8, 2008.The Economic and Financial Affairs Council of EU (ECOFIN) formally adopted the last and definitive decision on adoption by Slovakia of the euro as its currency, as from 1 January 2009.
The conversion rate is set at 30.1260 Slovak koruna to the euro, which corresponds to the current central rate of the koruna within the EU's ERM II exchange rate mechanism.
The ECOFIN decision will enlarge the euro area to 16 member states.

European Commission Proposes Slovakia Joins Euro Area in 2009
May 7, 2008.The European Commission concluded that Slovakia meets the criteria for adopting the euro and made a proposal to the Council to this effect.
The regular Convergence Report on euro readiness, adopted by the Commission, shows that the other nine countries with a so-called 'derogation' have made progress on the road to the single currency, but do not yet meet all the conditions for euro adoption.
