Patriotism Act Passed By Parliament

The Slovak Parliament passed the Patriotism Act. A total of 77 MPs out of 122 voted in favour of the proposal.

If the act will be signed by Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic, the Slovak national anthem will be played mandatorily at the beginning of every session of the Government, Parliament and regional parliaments, as well as at schools at the beginning of every school week.

No Sanctions for Schools for Violating Patriot Act

The Education Ministry won't provide any funding to schools around the country in relation to the application of the newly-adopted Patriot Act, said Education Minister Jan Mikolaj, adding that schools are to face no sanctions for not obeying the law.

Slovak Universities Can Not Compete with Foreign

Slovak universities and colleges aren't improving. According to the Academic Ranking and Rating Agency (ARRA), Slovak universities and colleges aren't able to compete with foreign academic institutions and aren't even catching up. Even if some of the results improve, after one year they drop back to the original level.
