Slovakia and Slovenia Should Co-operate Against Crisis

Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic on Sunday afternoon began his three-day official visit to Slovenia. On the second day his visit he attended a bilateral business forum where he called for more co-operation between economic representatives and entrepreneurs of the two countries against the global economic crisis.
According to the president Slovakia is interested in co-operation with Slovenia in areas like electrical-engineering and energy industries.
Slovakia Can Lose €216 Million Over Emission Quotas Scandal

The Slovak emission quotas scandal can drag on and on, and without immediate legal steps being taken Slovakia could lose at least €216 million, said Rainer K. Wachter, the director of Vienna branch of the American law firm Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP on Thursday.
Slovakia sold 15 million tons of CO2 emissions for €5.05 per ton, while the usual European price is more then twice bigger. Interblue is under the contract entitled to buy a further 35 million tons.

"The new electronic road-toll system is not ready," stated the Union of Slovak Motor Carriers (UNAS). As much as the operator SkyToll claims that the system has been launched and works perfectly, transport companies disagree with that.
According to UNAS, 20 Turkish truck drivers couldn't secure a board unit anywhere in Slovakia while passing through. From Trstena to Ruzomberok (both in Zilina region), the drivers couldn't get a single working board unit. They were told the system had crashed and the registration is not possible.
Minimum Monthly Wage in Slovakia Rose to €307.70

The minimum wage in Slovakia rose by 4.1 percent to €307.70 per month as of January 1, in line with a Government decision from October.
The Slovak Labour Ministry originally planned to increase the minimum wage of €295.5 per month by 8.1 percent as proposed by the unions. The Tripartite partners have met to negotiate the issue several times since August, but were unable to reach agreement, and the Government decided to set the increase at 4.1 percent.

December 7, 2009.The new seat of the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) will be in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana, EU energy ministers decided at their meeting in Brussels on Sunday. Slovenia won by receiving 15 votes, Slovakia failed getting the second place with 11 votes.
