Traffic Jams Likely at Border Crossings due to Toll System Introduction It can be expected that there will be traffic jams as of January 1 at Slovak border crossings, as lorries will be registering for the new Slovak electronic road toll system. Border crossings with the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria will certainly be most affected.

National Highway Company CEO Igor Choma said that special contact places have been established as well in order to make the registration process faster.

Analyst: Gas Crisis May Happen Again, But Slovakia Is Better Prepared

The tension between Russia and Ukraine over gas supplies is growing, but a possible gas crisis would hit Slovakia with considerably less impact than the one at the beginning of the year, according to Karel Hirman from the Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency. Speaking about Slovakia's better level of preparedness, Hirman pointed to agreements concluded in the summer between Slovak gas utility Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel and E.ON Ruhrgas, Gaz de France and VNG.
