Government Passed Its Manifesto

The Cabinet led by Premier Iveta Radicova at its session on Wednesday passed the Government Manifesto. The document is now awaiting approval from Parliament in early August. The vote in Parliament will at the same time be viewed as a vote of confidence for the new executive.

The Government views the introduction of new political culture and ethics as its duty. Therefore it is proposing a significant restriction in the immunity enjoyed by MPs, public officials as well as judges. The MP's immunity is to be applied only to their statements in Parliament, no longer covering their misdemeanours.

Enhancing the quality of life and living standards stands as the new Government's greatest priority. To this end, Radicova's Cabinet plans to revive economic growth and Slovakia's competitiveness. "The most important indicator of whether or not the Government is making things happen will be the rate of job creation," the Manifesto states.

The Government also plans to stop getting into debt, decrease the deficit in public finances, improve education, enhance research and development, as well as fight against corruption and strengthen the rule of law.
