Slovak Paramedics Arrived in Haiti to provide help to the earthquake-stricken countryA team of Slovak paramedics arrived in Haiti on Sunday to provide help to the earthquake-stricken country.

The 16 paramedics will mainly carry out disinfection in order to prevent the outbreak of diseases as well as logistic support for staff from St. Elizabeth's University for Healthcare and Social Work. They will also be tasked with maintaining a field hospital, rescuing survivors from debris and dealing with dead bodies.

Slovak doctors from St. Elizabeth's University, headed by professor Vladimir Krcmery, began providing aid to people in Haiti on Wednesday (January 20). They have managed to set up a post-surgery unit at a former HIV centre, admitting some 1,000-1,200 patients with operations taking place on a daily basis.
