Slovak Prime Minister visited Moscow to discuss economic co-operation

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and his Russian counterpart Vladimir PutinSlovak Prime Minister Robert Fico made a working visit to Moscow on Monday, during which he met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and the CEO of Russian gas concern Gazprom Alexei Miller.

The main topic of the discussions were energy-related economic co-operation and other areas of bilateral co-operation.

There are no unresolved political issues between Slovakia and Russia, which means that the two countries can focus on developing bilateral economic relations,Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin stated Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico prior to meeting his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Slovakia, as a member state of the European Union supports the signing of an agreement on Russian crude-oil supplies to Europe, said Fico.

Putin pointed to the opportunities for further strengthening trade between Slovakia and Russia, which has been affected by the global economic crisis. According to the Russian premier, it should be possible to increase the current level to of $10 billion in the future.

During a working lunch, the two premiers discussed the strategic implications of supplier-customer relations on economic life and Slovakia's energy security, mainly with the upcoming heating season in mind. They also focused on nuclear-energy co-operation.

With Alexei Miller, Fico had told about opportunities to develop Slovak-Russian co-operation in the sphere of gas and in jointly drawing up infrastructural projects.
