Slovakia has qualified for 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa
Yesterday on Wednesday night in Poland Slovakia won a match against the Polish team and has qualified for their first FIFA World Cup since its independence. Slovakia has won in dreadful conditions 1-0 a match in which victory secured them the first place in the group.
Poland dominated for most of the contest but could not find a way through a Slovak squad which was without four first-team players because of suspensions for yellow cards in previous matches. The only goal was Gancarczyk's own goal which arrived just in third minute when he sliced a cross past the Jerzy Dudek, who was making his first appearance since 2006. In the rest of the match Poland played better, but were unable to find a way past visiting keeper Jan Mucha.
"I love these players," said Slovak main coach Vladimir Weiss. "In these qualifiers we have played well and had a little bit of luck. Everybody made a contribution and we made the whole of Slovakia happy. This is a fantastic feeling."
