Tennis: Cibulkova Lost to Sharapova in Final of Bausch & Lomb Championships
Amelia Island, Florida, April 13 - Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia lost 6-7 3-6 to No. 1 seed Maria Sharapova of Russia in the final of the Bausch & Lomb Championships tennis tournament in Amelia Island on Sunday.
Cibulkova, playing in her first WTA final, was hampered by a leg injury and received treatment from the trainer in the second set after breaking Sharapova for a 2-1 lead. The injury appeared to take its toll on Cibulkova, who won just one more game.
Sharapova became the first woman to win three titles this season following her success at the Australian Open and Qatar Open.
Unseeded Dominika Cibulkova had advanced to the final defeating in previous rounds No. 2 seed Anna Chakvetadze (Russia) in third-round match, Former Bausch & Lomb champion the 11th-seeded Amelie Mauresmo (France) in quarterfinal match and unseeded Alize Cornet (France) in semifinal match.
